Frequently Asked Questions
Below you'll find answers to some of the questions we get asked about the most about when applying for a job at DPD.
-
Why do I need to register?
A registered login allows us to uniquely identify you. This means that your application details are saved for you to access later, it also means if you wish to apply for more jobs in the future you can copy details from your old application saving you time by not having to start from scratch. We ask you to confirm ownership of your email address so that we know that you have typed it correctly and that you also own the email address. This means we can then use your email address to communicate with you about your application progress.
-
Why do you prefer online applications?
At DPD we want to ensure that everybody's application is handled fairly and in the same way. This is achieved by using an online system to manage our applications, so by applying online we are able to handle your application effectively and efficiently.
-
What pre-employment checks are made?
All offers of employment are subject to checks that are undertaken to verify and validate the information you have provided. These checks will cover information you have disclosed to us including previous job experience, personal and professional references and any other details you have supplied. For all jobs you will be required to undergo a Basic Disclosure check. Driving licence checks will be carried out where appropriate. You will also be required to complete a medical screening questionnaire when you start in your role.
-
How are my details kept secure?
Our systems and processes are compliant with our Data Protection Policy and relevant legislation. Your data held in our system will be automatically archived if your account is inactive for 12 months.
-
Who will have access to my information and how will it be used?
In compliance with The Data Protection Act 1988, your information will only be made available to parties that need access to it, for example the Recruitment Team or the Line Manager if you are invited to attend an interview.
-
Do I need to have industry experience?
Not necessarily, however some specialist roles may require industry experience. Where this is required it will be specifically stated on the advert itself. For our Depot roles we offer a full training package for all new starters.
-
What is meant by an unspent conviction?
You are not required to disclose spent convictions covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 in the UK or under your equivalent national legislation. A conviction becomes 'spent' after a certain length of time, which varies depending upon the sentence and your age at the time of conviction. If you have ever been convicted of an offence for which a sentence of more than 4 years was imposed (regardless of the amount you have actually spent in prison) then this conviction can never become spent.
If you need further clarity on your own status you should contact your local Probation Office, the Citizens Advice Bureau or your solicitor.
-
Will I be notified on receipt of my application?
Upon completion of the application you will be taken through to SmartRecruiters in order to create a profile. You will also receive an email with a link asking you to create a password for your candidate portal. You can log in to this at any time to check the progress of your application status.
-
What is the purpose of the equal opportunities section?
This information is gathered and used solely for monitoring purposes and is not visible to the hiring manager or recruiter for any vacancies. We use the information to ensure and monitor equality of opportunity for all applicants.
-
Will I be contacted if I'm not successful?
Yes, you will receive an email informing you whether you have passed the application stage. Further selection stages may apply and you will be notified of the outcome of further stages by email in the same way.
-
I have been asked to provide eligibility documents, what should I bring?
The Asylum and Immigration Act 1996 requires all employers in the UK to make basic document checks on every person they intend to employ. You must bring a valid passport (with supporting work permit where applicable) or your Birth Certificate and a copy of your National Insurance Number (either on your NI card, a P45 or Payslip) to your interview.
-
Can I apply if I don't have a work permit?
No, we only consider applications from those who have a full and valid permit to work in the UK.
